For all of Ralphy, Dupo and Foxy fans out there! Each autumn a group of students from Cardiff School of Art & Design come to La Perdrix to build experimental kilns and fire sculptures in the meadow. Here is a selection of images from the week and a trailer for the firing night! This is the film of pinhole imagery which accompanied the ceramic cameras in the Expo last week. All images were taken in or around La Perdrix and some were using the ceramics pinhole cameras.
In October we had a number of groups of students from the National Centre of Ceramics in Wales come to undertake kiln building and firing workshops, each group had a specific challenge this group had to create a fire sculpture using the principals of kiln construction to animate their sculpture through the control of fire. There follows a trailer for the event of the firing... it worked wonderfully! This film was made in the La Bourg living room, the first trial of my augmented reality marker on the jug.
This is Dupo 17 (aka Tybalt) a little abandoned kitten found and cared for this week by our lovely house guests from UCL. Introductions between Ralph and Dupo went as well as can be expected...in as much as the kitten survived, largely due to the fact Johnny was sat on Ralph throughout. Dupo was however intrigued by Ralphie's wagging tail and fearlessly made a dive for it, and actuality bit the end of it... that was the end of the encounter.
This week saw a visit by some of the MA Ceramics students from Cardiff School of Art & Design. Good times were had by all, the were blessed with fine weather, they visited Auberterre, Kate swam in the river, they wrote some essays, made some work, ate some fine food, cooked some darn good food, drank a fair bit of wine, met some interesting folk, soaked a few rays, visited potters and Jacqui fell in love with Ralph ...or was it vice versa! Mark Nilsson a painter form New York state is settling into life at La Perdrix, is spending 2 months working with us having received a travel bursary from Purchase College New York. Mark has been completing rapid expressive portraits of many of La Perdrix's visitors, as well as working on his larger painting;s in the studio. He is also working of a mural in La Chapelle, watch this space for progress.....
