St Martin De Riberac
St Martin de Riberac is a small picturesque village 3 km from the large market town of Riberac in the heart of the beautiful Dordogne region of France. Riberac hosts the biggest traditional market in the Perigord region every Friday, a wonderful chance to sample the fine local produce.
The area surrounding La Perdrix is highly regarded for it's natural beauty and history. St Martin De Riberac is a great central base for a holiday as there are beautiful towns and villages in every direction, so there is always somewhere new and interesting to visit. The landscape is gently rolling, with high points giving some breathtaking views.
The picturesque town of Aubeterre which is home to one of Frances's largest and most famous monolithic churches is 15 minutes drive away, Aubeterre also has a quite central square with a range of restaurants, shops and galleries and a sandy river beach, where you can swim or hire canoes to explore the Dronne River.
The historic and delightful town of Perigueux, which is the capital of the area, is 30 mins away, this town with it's high narrow medieval streets is an architectural delight with each period of history leaving it's mark on the town. The historic centre has a series of labyrinthine streets full of stylish shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, whose menu's feature many Perigordine specialities.
Chateaux de Bourdeille with it's castle and meandering river is 20 minutes away and a further 10 minutes brings you to Brantome, with it's renowned monastery, with it's good restaurants and beautiful views, Brantome is an ideal spot for a riverside meal , it also has wonderful canoe routes.
In the summer months each village in the local area celebrates it's annual fete, these are great events and a lovely way to tour the locality, there are brocantes and vides greniers (flea markets) for the bargain hunters, funfairs for the kids and nocturnal fireworks displays, that are always impressive as local competition is high.
For those wishing to travel further afield the UNESCO listed city of Bordeaux is an hour and twenty minutes drive, one of France's most beautiful and historic cities it is well worth a visit, Bordeaux has one of the longest shopping streets in Europe and caters for every retail therapy need. There are also the vineyards of St Emillion within easy reach.

The nearest airport is Bergerac airport which is a 45 min drive from the property this airport uses Ryanair which flies from Bristol, London, Liverpool, East Midlands and Flybe carriers and has good connections throughout Europe, it is a small airport and therefore pleasant and speedy to travel through.
