May I recommend La Perdrix to folk artistic or otherwise as a rural, artistic and gastronomic idyll. The perfect holiday blend of original monastery, gardens, French farmland views and sunny weather.
The artistic owners Ingrid Murphy and Johnny Segers are as creative in the kitchen as they are in the ceramics studio. During my stay there I sampled such delights as a fabulous fresh coconut curry of locally reared goat, homemade soups with crusty bruschetta s and salamis and homemade fig and cinnamon crumble from the three fig trees in the garden mmmm.
A lovely laid back but organised ambience, with every care and attention to detail is waiting for the lucky guests.
Pick up and drop offs to Bergerac Airport are offered. Trips to the market for more delicious local foods, original gifts and clothing and coffee outside the street cafe.
My group splashed out on a super three course lunch at L’Epicurien restaurant in nearby Perigueux , ordering the set menu of two courses for -13 euros or three for 16 euros. What an amazing and delicious place. A meal that was thoroughly French that did not prevent us partaking of a bit of late dinner back in the cosy dining room at La Perdrix.
Good company, music and silly games followed. Films on the home cinema big screen are another option, or dancing and sipping locally produced wines. There is an above ground swimming pool for a quick dip when it is hot.
The various accommodations are comfortable and quiet each with its own character and original features. Off-season roaring wood burners make a cosy atmosphere. The style is shabby chic with plenty of unique paintings and ceramics to discover. Some are for sale as one off pieces. My bedroom was comfortable with it own original paintings, ceramics and a little secluded patio with rustling bamboos.
My weeks stay concluded with a raku firing outdoors and an exhibition in the large wood timbered barn, which doubles as a gallery. Even the food was served on ceramic platters made by Mick Morgan who not only teaches the raku course, but also makes some very fine pancakes!!
So whether you want a relaxing break, to make art or stage your own customised wedding or 40th Birthday, La Perdrix is a perfect and picturesque venue that comes highly recommended.

La Perdrix has been the most absolutely amazing place ~ definitely the best that we have stayed since we've been coming to France for the last 15 years or so ~ and that would be true even without the exceptional, warm hospitality of Ingrid and Johnny!
Thank you so much.

Oh such lovely decadence, wine , gastronomy, company, culture, new friends, companionship, rest, relaxation and coming into my own self
I leave going forward into life to embrace change and risk in order in order to touch intuition and creativity. I leave the source, the spring and flow onwards into life hoping to return.
With love

What a wonderful place La Perdrix is. It's hard to decide what impressed me the most. The beautiful old buildings, the peace and tranquility, the location or the fabulous food.
There's something very special going on here that you immediately feel part of.
Johnny is a great host, supplying a never ending stream of beautifully cooked food and entertaining everyone with ease.
My favourite evenings were those spent lingering over meals on the patio, with the wine flowing amidst much talking and laughter until the stars were twinkling in the night sky.
Simply magical - I can't wait to return.

Once again I visited La Perdrix and left without adding a few words to the visitor's book.
My visit in June was to paint the landscape with some 13 years more experience and I returned having been invited to exhibit in the first La Perdrix exhibition. The Vernissage or Preview went very well with over 80 people attending which created a great atmosphere. Most of the exhibitors were experienced artists that was apparent in the quality of their work. It also offered a good mix of Welsh and local Dordogne talent with an array of mediums, styles and interest. Thanks to Johnny who worked hard to transform the barn into a gallery and all those who helped to make the event a success.
After the Vernissage I painted for 3 days and produced many studies, but more abstract than in June. I was happy with the work being more tonal and looked for the basic shapes that were mainly triangular. September is a great time to visit for a painter as the final crops are being harvested offering strong tones, rich colours and dynamic forms. My week came to an end though I spent a further 3 days in Bordeaux learning more about the city and wine production.
