La Perdrix is a gated private property on the edge of the village of St Martin de Riberac in the beautiful Dordogne area of south west France. Originally built as a 13th Century Monastery, the property has undergone many transformations over the centuries but has maintained much of it's original features and historic charm.
There is the large La Bourg house which has 6 bedrooms and beautiful elevated vine covered terrace which provides dappled shade in the heat of summer and is the perfect place to watch the sun set behind the nearby church steeple. The Chapelle house is adjoined to La Bourg house, it has 2/3 bedrooms although both houses have seperate entrances and terraces. They can also be joined by a dividing passsage to enable larger groups to occupy the house if neccessary. There is also a detached gite called Cluny Cottage which is situated opposite the Main house, this is a bijou property with a large bright living area, and 3/4 bedrooms, one of the bedroom leads directly onto it's own private terrace with views over the meadow.
We have lived at La Perdrix since 2007 , it is a unique place and as artists we love the fact that it is literally creaking with history, we have a large art studio in the grounds with self contained accommodation and in the low season we teach art courses and run an artist in residence programme attracting artists from all over the world, each of them bringing something new and different to La Perdrix.
We have trawled the local brocantes and markets to find the furniture and art that we feel best compliment the style and character of the property. The garden is rambling, full of fig , plum and walnut trees, it's an ideal place to swing in a hammock listening to the birdsong, or watch the night sky from the swimming pool. La Perdrix isn't grand , it's a little ramshackle but it's rustic and true. We have already had some truly great times here, wonderful weddings, lively dinners, musical soirees and a long line of great guests, many who have become firm friends. ...if you are looking for something timeless with a touch of creativity maybe La Perdrix is right for you.
